Residents can have their say on a proposed Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for new Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) around the Borough.

The document has been produced to ensure proposals for HMOs will contribute positively to making places better for people, improve standards of accommodation and reduce detrimental impacts on neighbours.

You can view the document and have your say by visiting the Council's 'current consultations' webpage.

You can also give your views on a proposed 'Article 4 direction', which would see planning consent required across the Borough to change a dwelling house into a small HMO. If confirmed this would be introduced in 2027.

To give your views, visit the dedicated webpage.

You have until Friday, April 17 to have your say.

Councillor Richard Eglington, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, said: "We know that well-managed and appropriate HMOs can be beneficial for the area, but there must be a balance, which is why we have proposed the Supplementary Planning Document and Article 4 direction.

"I would encourage everyone to have their say and give their views, as we know this is an important issue for our residents.

"Paper copies of the consultation are also available by visiting any of the Borough's libraries."
