Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Events Environmental Trading Pledge
We ask that you:
- serve at least two vegetarian or vegan meals, in future, we would like our menus to be 50% vegetarian or vegan
- where possible, use locally sourced organic ingredients
- do not use or distribute single use plastics, any packaging given to the public should be compostable or environmentally-sound including cups, cutlery, trays, plates, slush cartons
- ensure all single use elements used by the public are recyclable, most recycling plants are not able to recycle cups with a polymer lining, which lots of cardboard cups have
- when equipment isn't required and at the end of a long day, turn off any equipment you can and switch off the lights
We also ask that you leave your pitch as it was found. This can be done by:
- disposing of wastewater correctly, using the wastewater disposal points on site
- utilising recycling points and the correct bins for general waste
- limiting food waste and packaging waste where possible
- taking away with you to relevant recycling points anything that should be disposed of otherwise and is essential for trading
Please note traders are prohibited from selling products in glass containers or bottles, for safety purposes.
Monitoring and sharing best practice
We acknowledge that there are many individual changes we can all make towards more sustainable events, however some things are not possible to change rapidly. We hope you are able to make a pledge to support our goal to reduce the environmental impact of our events.
We will check in on each day of trading and suggest any amends required if necessary.
