There are many services within the council and other organisations that can provide you with help and advice regarding benefits, employment, energy costs, families, health and social care, housing, welfare rights and financial guidance.

Christians Against Poverty
Christians Against Poverty provide free and confidential support, covering help with debt, budgeting and money advice. They work through local church-based centres across the UK, offering practical guidance and community-based support.

Welfare Rights Service
Our Welfare Rights Service provides free, confidential, independent and impartial advice and information on welfare benefits to Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council residents.
We recognise that individuals must make their own decisions and we aim to provide individuals with the information to be able to exercise their rights.

If you need support with benefit issues we may be able to act on your behalf if you are referred to us by any of the following:

The Home Energy Advice Team (HEAT) service, delivered by The Wise Group, is a free support service dedicated to helping low-income households reduce energy costs and tackle fuel poverty. The HEAT service can help with:

- understanding tariffs and billing

Household Benefit cap
The benefit cap is a limit on the total amount of benefit you can get. It applies to most people aged 16 or over who have not reached State Pension age.
