Lisa Evans

Councillor Lisa Evans

Councillor Lisa Evans was elected in May 2019 and represents Norton Central Ward.

Councillor Evans is the first ever female Leader of the Council, an accolade that she is very proud of. She has lived her whole life in Stockton-on-Tees, attended school here, and has also worked throughout the Borough.

After finishing secondary school at Our Lady and St Bede, she worked in retail for many years and became involved in the Trade Union movement whilst working at Tesco on Durham Road. Whilst there, she returned to education to gain teaching qualifications at Stockton Riverside College and the University of Sunderland.

She worked as a lecturer at Sunderland College for many years and this allowed her to value the opportunities that education gives. She is passionate that every child and young person, regardless of background, has the best access to education available to them. She was also a Governor at Our Lady and St Bede School for four years, focusing on raising standards and ensuring parents and young people's views and issues were listened to.

She was Cabinet Member for Children and Young People for 6 years before taking on the role of Leader of the Council. She is Chair of the Corporate Parenting Board, the Health and Wellbeing Board and also holds the Cabinet portfolio of Employment, Education and Skills at the Tees Valley Combined Authority.
