School Support Service

School Support work in partnership with schools and other education establishments to improve children and young people's emotional resilience, reduce suspension, and prevent exclusion through targeted one to one or group work.

The team have the following functions:

1. School Support Advisers act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for school staff, offering advice and guidance on emerging issues or concerns. Our Team Around the School Service (TASS) model works with school staff to identify pupils who need support with attendance, behaviours or other concerns at the earliest opportunity. Each school has a dedicated School Support Adviser, and some schools have an Adviser based in school, depending on level of need, who can support, advise and upskill staff to feel confident in offering the right support at the right time.

Here is a list of School Support Advisers and their contact details. We also have a daily Duty Worker who can support professionals with queries, general advice and guidance on next steps with families on 01642 526123 or TASS@stockton.gov.uk.

2. School Support Workers deliver low level direct work in settings such as school and other venues to meet the needs of that individual either one to one or in group work, using restorative interventions to build self-esteem and self-confidence. School Support Workers provide supportive interventions that encourage good attendance, positive behaviour, and safe, healthy peer relationships.

We deliver an enhanced transition programme that helps every child make a smooth, confident and well‑supported move from year 6 to year 7. This programme is designed to build confidence, manage emotions, deal with change and make new friends. School Support work in partnership with schools, 0 to 19 health service, Alliance Psychology Services, and Mind.

The benefit of the programme is to increase knowledge around good and bad choices, increase attendance and punctuality, reduce anxieties, improve positive self-image and promote inclusiveness and relationship building.
