Honeypot Wood
Lovely woodlands near Whitton village with rolling countryside to the north-west of Stockton.
Ash, oak, beech, alder, birch, rowan and larch are just some of the trees found in this small woodland, established on land which was once farmed and also the site of sand and gravel quarries. After the quarry became disused the site was used for landfill and subsequently landscaped and the trees planted.
In addition to the woodlands there are meadows which contain wildflowers such as; white and red clover, yarrow, creeping buttercup, ox-eye daisy, cowslip, betony and harebell. These attract butterflies such as red admiral, small skipper and peacock.
New surfaced footpaths have recently been constructed in the woodlands. There is a longer route around the site which is around 1 kilometre long, and a shorter multi-user route around 250metres in length. These paths make the woodland more accessible to more people throughout the year.
