Environmental permit applications and consultations
Public consultation is undertaken for certain environmental permit applications and for variations to existing environmental permits which involve a substantial change in their operations.
Applications can be inspected, free of charge, and you can provide feedback or comments on the application by email to environmental.health@stockton.gov.uk.
Comments made before the deadline will be taken into consideration in determining the application. Comments received after the deadline will be reviewed and may be taken into consideration.
Current applications
There are currently no applications which require public consultation.
Tacit consent
Tacit consent applies to some licenses or permits whereby an applicant has a legal right to undertake the activities applied for if the applicant has not had their application determined by the end of the determination period.
Tacit consent does not apply to applications for environmental permits. This means you can not assume your permit is granted if you do not hear from us. Please contact Environmental Health if you have not heard from us within 14 days of submitting your application.
Appeals
If an application is refused or if the applicant objects to conditions imposed on a granted application, please contact us in the first instance.
An applicant can appeal a refusal or condition to the Secretary of State (Planning Inspectorate). Find out how to make an appeal.
Public register
Local Authorities are required through the Environmental Permitting Regulations to maintain a public register.
If you have an enquiry in relation to the public register for permits issued by the Local Authority, please contact Environmental.Health@stockton.gov.uk. The register was last updated on 19 September 2025.
