What is Pride in Place?

In September 2025, the Government announced that Central Stockton and Portrack have been chosen as part of a nationwide initiative, named Pride in Place.

This will give £19.6m in funding for these areas over the next ten years. It aims to put power into the hands of local people so that they can decide how to regenerate their local area.

At its core, a partnership between the Neighbourhood Board (to be made up of local representatives), local Government and the local MP with 3 overarching aims:

  1. stronger communities
  2. thriving communities
  3. taking back control

Pride in Place includes the following themes:

  • cohesion
  • education and opportunity
  • health and wellbeing
  • housing
  • regeneration, high streets and heritage
  • safety and security
  • transport
  • work, productivity and skills

Further information on the programme can be found on the Government guidance page, Plan for Neighbourhoods: prospectus and tools.
