Across the Borough, iconic bridges and buildings will once again light up throughout the year for good causes and important anniversaries.

Structures like the Newport Bridge, the Riverside and Stockton town centre are bathed in colourful lights as part of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's popular memorial lighting scheme to show the Borough's support for a diverse range of nationally recognised special occasions and good causes.

The LED lighting has been used to mark everything from Holocaust Memorial Day and St George's Day to World Mental Health Day and Show Racism the Red Card.

And the Council's Cabinet has agreed an updated annual programme for 2026.

Councillor Lisa Evans, Leader of the Council, said: "We are immensely proud that our memorial lighting programme remains popular with everyone and is always shared far and wide on social media.

"By using a varied selection of coloured lights, it allows us to show our support for a diverse range of nationally and internationally recognised causes and important anniversaries, whilst also highlighting the Riverside, along with our iconic bridges and other town centre buildings and structures at their very best.

"To submit a request for next year's annual memorial lighting programme, visit the Council's website.

"Unfortunately, with many hundreds of worthy causes, we are not able to mark every anniversary or campaign."
