Changes are coming to the way some residents in the Stockton-on-Tees Borough receive their Council Tax bills.

Under the new changes being implemented at the end of November, residents will no longer be able to receive Council Tax bills by email.

Instead, a new online account will automatically be set-up for people to view their bills safely and securely.

Here are the details you need.

I receive my Council Tax bills by email, what do I need to do?

If you receive your bills by email, please look out for an email from the Council with details on how to log-in to your new online Council Tax account.

There will be further information in the email you receive, including a username and password, which can be changed once the account is up and running.

The email will come from NoReplyRevsBens@stockton.gov.uk.

Why are the changes being made?

The changes are being implemented to ensure viewing Council Tax bills is more secure.

I already have an online Council Tax account, do I need to do anything?

If you already have an online account to view your Council Tax bills, you do not need to do anything further. This only impacts residents who receive their bills via email.

Similarly, if you receive your Council Tax bill in any format other than email, no further action is needed.

Can I set up my own online Council Tax account if I don't already have one or have not been receiving my bills via email?

Yes if you receive your bill in another format such as a paper bill, you can set up an online account anytime. To create an account, visit the Council Tax portal webpage.

What does the Cabinet Member think?

Councillor Paul Rowling, Deputy Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and Cabinet Member for Resources and Transport, said: "We're making these changes to ensure viewing Council Tax bills is more safe and secure through our online portal, rather than being an email attachment.

"We appreciate residents' understanding on this and thankfully it'll be a quick and easy process thanks to the online accounts being set-up automatically.

"Of course, if anyone has any questions then you can contact the customer services team using the online form or by calling 01642 397108.

"If you are impacted by these changes, please look out for an email coming and be assured that if it is from the NoReplyRevsBens@stockton.gov.uk address, it is genuine.

"And don't forget to change your password once you've set-up the online account!"
