Yarm Town Council: Vacancies prompt appointment of temporary members

The recent resignation of all eleven councillors elected to Yarm Town Council means that the Town Council is temporarily unable to act, as a minimum of four councillors, known as quorum, is required.
There are now so many vacancies that under the Local Government Act (1972) Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council may, by order, appoint a person or persons to fill all or any of the vacancies until other Town Councillors are co-opted or elected to take office.
The following Stockton-on-Tees Borough Councillors have been temporarily appointed to act as Members of Yarm Town Council:
- Councillor John Coulson (Councillor for Yarm Ward)
- Councillor Andrew Sherris (Councillor for Yarm Ward)
- Councillor Elsi Hampton (Councillor for Southern Villages Ward)
- Councillor Stefan Houghton (Councillor for Eaglescliffe East Ward)
These temporary Councillors will remain until new Yarm Town Councillors have been co-opted or elected to fill the vacancies.
The Notice of Election will be published on Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's website in the coming weeks and no later than 10 July, 2025.
