Thornaby Trail

The Thornaby Trail is a 8.5 mile (14km) circular route that links attractive areas of countryside, woodland and riverside around Thornaby

The route includes Bassleton Wood, Thornaby Green, The River Tees, Stainsby Beck and Woods and Thornaby Woods.

It offers a range of options for walkers, with the opportunity to complete the full circuit or use adjoining paths to create a series of shorter routes starting from anywhere in the town.

Accessibility

The surfacing of the footpaths vary throughout the walk, from tarmac to muddy sections.

Opening times

The trail is open at all times.

Location

The map below shows the trail being walked in an anti-clockwise direction, but it can be walked in either direction and the waymarking that has been installed works both ways. There is no specific starting point as the trail can be picked up anywhere along its length.

We would like to support you to get the most out of the trail, not only by walking it, but by helping to care for and further develop it.  Opportunities to get involved include practical works on site as a volunteer with the Council's ranger service, becoming a walk leader, or providing trail recordings, such as wildlife sightings, local history and trail photographs.
