Love Your Local Market event returns this weekend

A special outdoor market bringing fun for all of the family returns to Stockton High Street on Saturday 17 May.
The popular Love Your Local Market event will take place between 10am and 1:30pm this Saturday and is part of the national Love Your Local Market fortnight, which celebrates the history and values of traditional markets.
During the event there will be free face painting and craft stall, a duck-themed 'lucky duck' market trail with goodie bags, as well as the opportunity to 'meet and greet' duck themed characters such as Daisy the Duck.
All completed market trail cards offer visitors a go at the 'lucky duck' game with a chance to win market vouchers, which can be spent across a range of market stalls.
Hosted by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA), the Love Your Local Market campaign is now celebrating its 14 year and has grown in popularity, recognised in 24 countries worldwide.
Stockton's award-winning market, located in the heart of Stockton High Street, is one of the biggest outdoor markets in the country, with currently over 100 single stall units and around 50 traders every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The Council also runs popular markets in Billingham on a Monday and Friday as well as Thornaby Market on a Thursday.
Councillor Richard Eglington, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, said: "We are incredibly proud of how much Love Your Local Market is celebrated in Stockton and residents across the Borough always have a wonderful time exploring what their local market has to offer.
"With a rich history going back over seven centuries, we would like to take this opportunity to thank those involved in running our markets so successfully across the Borough.
"They really help to bring our town centres to life through enthusiastic hives of activity and trading. Come along, bring the family and have a fantastic day out!"
