Video: The haunting performance led by limbless veterans that's set to open this year's SIRF
A moving performance paying tribute to Britain's wounded war veterans will open this year's Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF).
'This Is Not For You' is a defiant and epic outdoor performance commissioned by Graeae Theatre Company, whose Artistic Director, Jenny Sealey, co-directed the London Paralympic opening ceremony.
The piece is performed by military charity, 'Blesma, The Limbless Veterans' as well as professional performers and local community choir, and will take place on Stockton High Street. It is part of 14-18 NOW, the UK's arts programme for the First World War centenary.
Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: "We feel absolutely privileged to be hosting this performance during this most poignant of years and we're absolutely sure it will capture people's hearts.
"It forms part of what will be the biggest SIRF yet, with 150 free, entertaining, thought-provoking, family-friendly shows to see. And it's less than a month away, so now is the time to start planning your visit.
"The SIRF programme is out too and it's packed full of profiles of the acts plus visitor information and top tips on how to enjoy SIRF18. It is now available online and copies will soon be in the Rediscover Stockton Shop, as well as Stockton-on-Tees branch libraries too."
This Is Not For You will take place on Thursday, 2 August at 8.30pm and also 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Friday 3 August. It is a free but ticketed performance. Tickets will be available from Monday, 16 July.
SIRF is supported by Arts Council England and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
