Update on Ingleby Barwick Leisure Facility
Major works in Ingleby Barwick are being rescheduled to reduce inconvenience and disruption for residents, businesses and pupils at All Saints Church of England Academy.
On 14 September, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Councillors approved proposals for a £3million expansion at All Saints Church of England Academy creating an additional 40 Year 7 places (200 places overall).
Preparatory work, to divert utility services for the new multimillion pound leisure facility, on the All Saints Academy site has proven difficult to coordinate due to the number of different companies involved.
To minimise the disruption caused by the utilities diversion work for the academy and for those who study and work there, as well as nearby residents, the two projects will now be brought together.
Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: "The Ingleby Barwick Leisure Facility is going to be a fantastic and much-needed facility for local people with swimming pools, a health and fitness suite, gym, community access library and customer service point.
"To keep disruption to a minimum we will now schedule the utility works, involving five utility companies plus the PFI company, IML, to fit alongside the planned work to expand the school."
Headteacher of All Saints Church of England Academy, Kevin Mann, said: 'We are absolutely delighted with this investment which meets demand for school places in the area. I am pleased to be working with the Council on this scheme and welcome this opportunity, which together with the new leisure facility, is fantastic news for the whole area."
The Ingleby Barwick Leisure Facility, which has been designed by Ellis Williams Architects, is now scheduled to open to the public in summer 2019.
The facility will be operated by Tees Active Leisure, which already operates three centres in the area on behalf of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
