Talks and walks shine light on Teesside's history

'The Archaeology of Teesside' programme first took place in 2016 and proved to be a huge success with a sell-out crowd.

This year, with the help of Alan Betteney from Cleveland Industrial Archaeology Society, the story will span the medieval period to the First World War.

Talks will take place on the first Tuesday of every month from May to November (excluding August) in the Music Room at Preston Park Museum at 10am.

There will also be two guided walks - in Yarm on June 18 and in Eaglescliffe on September 19.

The first will follow in the footsteps of the 'Roundheads' and 'Cavaliers' and explore the fight for the river crossing at Yarm. The second traces part of the route of the original Stockton & Darlington Railway, discovering hidden links to Preston Park Museum.

The series will show people how the area has changed over time, but also how the past continues to shape the area and the remains that can still be seen and enjoyed today.

Tickets are priced £2 per talk and £4 per walk, and can be booked by calling the museum on 01642 527 375. Early booking is advised due to limited places.
