The level of Council Tax you pay depends on the valuation band of your property. The valuation of your property was set by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) based on its value in April 1991. Your bill shows which band applies to your home.
If you think your home is in the wrong Council Tax valuation band you may be able to make an appeal against the banding. If you make an appeal, please continue to pay your Council Tax.

If you have applied for an exemption, discount or reduction in Council Tax and you are not satisfied with the outcome, or you do not think you are liable for the council tax for a property, you have the right to appeal. Appeals must be made in writing to the Head of Revenues and Benefits at the following address:

If you are not satisfied with the Council’s decision, or the Council have failed to notify you of their decision within two months, you have the right to appeal to the Valuation Tribunal Service.
If you make an appeal you must continue paying the instalments shown on your bill.
