I attended Town Hall where I chaired Full Council, I was able to congratulate Councillor Bill Woodhead on being honoured by the Queen by being awarded the MBE, well done.
However we held a minute silence in memory of serving councillor Michael Clark and Jo Cox who was so tragically killed by an assailant. Michael was a good and honest councillor who like me put his residents first, he will be sadly missed.

Attended Ceremonial Mayor of Hartlepool’s community dinner at the Rift, the dinner was prepared by one of the councillors and all monies made went to the Mayors charity.
30 June 2016
Hosted a tribute to Armed Forces at Armed Forces Day in the high street , the event was well attended by dignitaries from all over. We toured the stalls and then had a service led by Mayors Chaplin Clay Roundtree. Then there was music by Drummed band, some excellent singing by Janie St John and soprano Samantha Holden supported by children’s choir from St Cuthbert’s school. Luckily the weather held up and the crowds came to see the automaton rise at 1 pm and more entertainment, however the point was never lost that this occasion was in memory of the First World War and the tragic loss of life. We also had Miss Teesside GB 2016 Sarah Gething assisting us at the event (good luck Sarah in the Miss Great Britain event in September).
Attended the surprise 60th birthday celebration of Ken and Sylvia Autumn of Eaglescliffe, what an unassuming couple, and by talking to them it was easy to see why they have been together for so long. Long may it last and again congratulation to you both.

Attended the grand opening of the new passenger boat on the river Tees at the quayside at Preston Park. This boat is the second phase of RiverShack Ltd, will transport passengers from Preston Park to Yarm and vice versa. This is a great addition to the river transport and promises to be a success with passengers being able to take in the beauty of the river and scenery.
Attended Philharmonic Choir, Green and Pleasant Land at Stockton Tabernacle, the choir led by John Forsyth FRSA,MBE featuring Andrew McAllister (solo tenor) and organ/piano accompanist Andrew Christer. What a wonderful sound of vocal harmony with several songs by the junior part of the choir. A great evening rounded off with everyone singing Jerusalem.
3 July 2016
Attended Yarm 1914 “ Remembering The Somme “ event in Yarm. Firstly attended service at Yarm Parish Church before marching to the Cenotaph on Yarm High Street. There was another service of remembrance with a large crowd in attendance, there were passages read by members of the congregation and then by some junior school children who eloquently read passages from stories and poems written by children of their view of the effects on families at the time of the Somme. This is all the more poignant to me because we have just found out in the past month that my Grandfather was killed in the Somme dying of his wound on 1 August 1916, however my father was born 4 months later hence the history of his real father was forgotten in time. My brother, sister in law and my wife and myself are travelling to France via Dunkirk, (this is where my late father was taken off the beaches) to ALBERT and the SOMME to lay a wreath on my grandfather grave on 1 August to commemorate 100yrs since his sad passing. It will be the first time any of our family have attended his grave.
Attended the Chairman of North Yorkshires Summer garden Party at Littlethorpe, Ripon. This event is in aid of the chairman’s charity and armed forces, it was a hot day where we met several dignitaries from the Yorkshire areas.
