Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

Big plans, bright future

Week Commencing 13 June 2016

14 June 2016

Afternoon Attended Mayor of Spennymoor Town Council Mayoress at Home event. Met several of the new dignitaries, bought raffle and Tombola tickets AGAIN didn’t win!

Evening Attended the Vice Chancellors Summer Garden party in Durham. Again met several people that I had met on previous occasions and a lot of new business and academic people. Had some very interesting conversations about the way Durham and Stockton are being linked together for the Academic future.

15 June 2016

Attended the Town Hall where I took part in the Citizenship ceremony for 11 people wanting to take an oath of allegiance to our Queen and Country to become British Citizens. There were 9 different nationalities taking part from America, Sri Lanka, Samoa etc.

17 June 2016

Morning Attended the funeral service of Michael Clark, 61yrs, who was a serving councillor for the Grangefield Ward. Michael was an honest hard working councillor, very eloquent and passionate about his commitment to his causes. I liked him because, like me, he stuck to the facts never going past what was right. Such a sad loss and my condolences go out to his wife Carol and family.

Afternoon Attended Blooming Great Tea Party at Victoria House Stockton. This is a home for elderly people some with Dementia and other debilitating illnesses. Today is National Care Home Day and also a celebration of the Queens 90th birthday. Janie St John sang all the old tunes and you could see the recognition in the people’s faces as the tunes played and they joined in the songs, this was great to see. We then had tea and scones. Thank you to Jackie Harris for inviting us we had a memorable day.

18 June 2016

Attended official handover of the Hartlepool Maritime experience to the National Museum of the Royal Navy. This started literally with a bang, because without warning someone fired a gun which I must admit had me jumping about 2’ in the air. There was a presentation given by members of the Royal Navy about their varied and numerous roles of deployment, what a great insight into the future of naval strategy. Visited the museum, very interesting and eclectic mix of information.

19 June 2016

Attended St Cuthbert’s Church, Peterlee for the civil service of the newly installed Mayor of Peterlee, Cllr Mary Cartwright. It was also a celebration of Fathers Day. Excellent service and good to meet the new Mayor.
