Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

Big plans, bright future

Week Commencing 6 February 2017

Attended the opening of the new LIDL store on Yarm road, Stockton. This is a brand new store and a different concept for LIDL, they have incorporated a bakery and wider and more open premises. I have to say it works as the store looks more open, spacious and lighter. I would like to thank the area manager and staff for their hospitality and I know the store will do well.

Following the store opening I attended a photo shoot at the new swings area at the Hillbrooke Park, Ingleby Barwick.

Attended the Town hall, Stockton where I showed the Eaglescliffe Cubs around the Town Hall. We had a collective group talk to start with where I explained my role as Mayor and how it impacts on the council. We then had a question and answer session; I have to admit they asked some very searching questions. We then took them into the council chamber where the history of Stockton along with its famous people was outlined. Then another question and answer session again asking pertinent questions about being Mayor and a councillor. The visit seemed to be enlightening to them and hopefully gave them an insight into me being Mayor and the history and pride to be had by living in Stockton.

Attended Dolphin Centre, Darlington, where we saw Darlington Schools Eurovision Song Contest, 21 schools sang songs from countries from all over the world. We were treated to some fantastic songs that were synonymous to them. Wow it was a real pleasure to be there, my favourite was O Mio Babbino Caro sang by the children of St Augustines RC Primary, they actually sang it in Italian which made it even more special, second was St Marys RC Primary representing Scotland with I’m Gonna Be (500 miles). Can I thank Darlington Mayor and Mayoress Brian and Doris for inviting us and especially to the all the children who took part for a wonderful evening.
