Attended Billingham Juniors FC Summer camp which involves members of the AC Milan coaching staff, this is based at the Northfield School, Billingham.
I met about 6 members of the training staff that had come from AC Milan, the idea was, in conjunction with the training staff from Northfield, they help coach and teach in the ways of this famous team. There must have been in excess of 60 children of all ages and including some girls who I was reliably informed were of a very good standard. They were going to select four of these youngsters to attend the AC Milan Stadium and meet the players, what a fantastic opportunity, not just for the four selected but for the youngsters and staff to benefit from this experience.

Attended the New Life Children Centre, Billingham to present awards for the Adult Learning courses that had been held there. It was refreshing to see people of all ages and backgrounds receiving well-earned certificates for all their hard work. Well done to everyone one, I know their training staff were rightly proud of them.
Attended the Town Hall, Stockton to receive the Deputy Mayor of UFA, Bashkorortostan, Russia. They were part of a delegation that was attending the Billingham International Folklore Festival. Through an interpreter I found out that his city has over a million people, and was rightly proud of their heritage. They also stated how clean and green they thought the Stockton and Billingham areas were, and that he was enjoying the festival and its different cultures as well as visiting the area such York Minster, Newcastle etc. It was pleasing to see that they had taken the time out to visit us.
Attended the “From Out a Darker Sea” presentation at St Johns Church, Seaham by So Percussion, featuring Amber Films. This was an evening of live music, visual art and film created for and inspired by east Durham. It involved four chapters: Coal and Flower, Four Portraits, Harold and Sylvia and Song For Billy. This was an eclectic mix of sound, film, and spoken word.

Attended the start of the first two stages of the Annual Rat Race at the Riverside, Stockton. I know they were going to get wet but it didn’t help by starting to rain heavily. I have got to admire these people putting themselves through a 10k run and getting soaked at each of the 8 stages.
I have to say I started to feel unwell and in pain by the time I left and went home to rest.
Attended the Closing Ceremony of the Billingham Folklore Festival, it was due to be held outside but because of the rain we had it inside. We were treated to dance and song from groups from Mexico, Nicosia, Korea, Martinique, Chile and of course UFA Bashkortostan. Even though the venue had changed we were treated to some fantastic traditional and spectacular dress, song and dance even though in pain I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have to mention the dedicated team of BIFF who have staged this event each year and special thanks to Joe Maloney for his 52 years of dedication. This event should be put in your calendar for next year as it, like SIRF, should not be missed.
