Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

Big plans, bright future

Week Commencing 1 August 2016

3 August 2016

Attended Maple Care Home Summer Fete, Stockton. What a beautiful day to hold a fete it certainly brought out the crowds. There were all types of stalls, craft, bakery, tombola, raffle, and seemed to be doing a good trade, all monies went to the home. Can I thank the organisers they did a great job and we enjoyed the day.

4 August 2016

Attended the opening night of the SIRF festival held in Preston Park, Stockton, I welcomed all the guests and after formalities we went to a section of the park where the FURIOUS FOLLY, led by Mark Anderson and his team were waiting to greet us by firstly crowding us into an area with announcements appertaining to the first world war being played over tannoy. We were then ushered into the central field area then into a roped area, it was like being in an open prison area with sentry pillars. We were then treated to all sorts of lights, bangs noises, all designed to replicate the fact that we were in a trench with barrage of bullets, bombs and noise of battle engulfing us.

It was a surreal experience giving an insight of being powerless to the barrage noise and darkness.

A great experience which is another coup for the organisers and the raising of the bar yet again, well done to all involved a well-produced and exceptional evening of events.

5 August 2016

Attended the Town Hall to present a posthumous award to the partner of the late Norman Alderton, this award was for the services to the community that Norman had shown over the years, always willing to volunteer and lead on the numerous events he was involved in. A true inspiration to the rest of us and a sad loss.

6 August 2016.

Attended the SIRF Community Carnival being held on the High Street, Stockton, I walked around and spoke to all concerned in the carnival itself. There was a huge inflatable dragon as well as butterfly roundabout, smaller dragons, octopus, children dressed in mythical creatures, musical and dance bands, what a colourful and spectacular sight. The procession started from Church Road and into the high street, to be greeted by hundreds of spectators that had lined both sides of the high street. What a fantastic spectacle of colour and noise with everyone getting involved in the carnival atmosphere. This is one of the best carnivals I have seen proving that SIRF is getting better and bigger every year. I got a lot of very positive feedback from the spectators and people taking part. Well done to everyone involved for such a memorable day.

Attended the Mayor of Hartlepool’s Garden party, a beautiful day for a barbeque with other dignitaries turning up, still didn’t win anything on raffle or Tombola. Monies raised for Mayors charities.

7 August 2016

Attended the Mayor of Hartlepool’s Civic service held in St John Vianney school and service in the church. This was a beautiful service dedicated to the Mayor and forthcoming Mayoral year. Good Luck Rob on your year.
