Today I travelled to Gateshead to attend a Local Government Association (LGA) meeting on their new Youth Voice project. I represented the LGA’s Children and Young People board as part of a panel of national decision makers to hear directly from youngsters about how they want to be supported in their transition into independent living.

This is just one of a number events that’ll be happening throughout the year to enable young people to meet with professionals from a range of sectors so they can give their thoughts on the things that matter to them and how positive change can be achieved.

Tomorrow I’ll be meeting with Margaret Waggott, Assistant Director of Administration, Democratic and Electoral Services, for one of our regular catch ups where we’ll review feedback from the Local and European Parliamentary elections in May.

A lot of preparation beforehand and hard work on the day goes into the election process so I’d like to reiterate my thanks to all staff who help to support them.

I’ll be presenting a report on this subject and an update on canvass reform among other items at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.

Over the weekend I’m looking forward to spending time with my family and catching up some on athletics.

I’ll be taking the opportunity on Monday and Tuesday to catch up on some important Council business in my office ahead of another busy week.
