July 2018

Following a few days of annual leave I will be returning to work on Friday. My day will begin with a meeting of the Tees Valley Leaders Group for our weekly catch-up. I will then meet Robert Hough, chairman of Durham Tees Valley Airport, to discuss the latest developments and ongoing issues.

Over the weekend I am looking forward to spending time with my family.

On Monday I will travel to Cavendish House for a workshop aimed at raising awareness and informing on the forthcoming devolved Adult Education Budget prior to a paper being submitted to Cabinet in September. Some important factors to consider are what the budget would mean to the Tees Valley, and what the implications are for the near future.

I will then join the Council’s Chief Executive Neil Schneider in a visit to the West End Gardens housing development site, just off Dovecot Street. This will give us an opportunity to see the work going in to delivering these new affordable homes in partnership with Thirteen Housing Group.

On Tuesday I will meet Richard McGuckin, the Council’s Director of Economic Growth and Development, who will update me on any new issues developing across the Borough. I will then meet Martin Waters, the Tees Valley Combined Authority's Head of Homes and Communities, for our weekly catch-up. I will then attend a bi-monthly Norton Park housing update as I am excited to see this brilliant development progressing well. It is a really vibrant new community providing affordable housing for first time buyers, families and professionals alike.

At midday Neil Schneider and I will meet with the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, Christopher Legard, and the High Sheriff of Durham, Stephen Cronin. They will be given a tour of the Borough which will begin at Preston Park Museum and Grounds. This is a brilliant opportunity to showcase what we have to offer here in Stockton-on-Tees, as well as learning about any developments in their areas.

My day will finish with a Members’ Policy Seminar which will focus on enforcement and CCTV in the Borough. We will also receive an update on some recent work by the Tees Valley Combined Authority.
