Big plans, bright future

December 2016

On Monday afternoon I had a briefing meeting about the Combined Authority followed by a Cabinet agenda review meeting.

On Tuesday I had my regular catch-up with the Council’s Assistant Director of Administration, Democratic and Electoral Services, Margaret Waggott. We discussed a range of things to ensure we have a good grasp of the issues, challenges and opportunities the Council will face in the New Year.

There was a similar theme at Wednesday’s meeting of the Tees Valley Leaders, Mayor and Chief Executives, where we looked at the forward plan taking us up to May’s mayoral election for the Combined Authority and also reviewed the impact of recent government decisions.

I have taken some annual leave over the Christmas and New Year period and am really looking forward to spending time with my family.

I’ll also be keeping a keen eye on Middlesbrough’s fortunes too, with a crunch clash at Burnley quickly followed by a trip to Manchester United and a home match against reigning champions Leicester City.

Where Boro sit after this rapid run of festive fixtures should give us a good indication of whether we face the prospect of a relegation battle or mid-table comfort in 2017.

Finally I would like to wish you and your friends and families a very merry Christmas. I hope you have a wonderful time. My best wishes to everyone for a happy and healthy 2017 too.
