Today will be largely dominated by a meeting at the Cleveland Community Hub in Hemlington. I’ll be joined by the Council’s Interim Managing Director, Julie Danks, to meet the new Chief Constable Richard Lewis and the Police & Crime Commissioner, Barry Coppinger. It was a very useful opportunity to talk about a number of issues facing us across the Borough and to map out how these important issues can be tackled.

I’ll also be taking the time to join my fellow Members in another tour of the new crematorium as it nears its opening date this summer. Everything is progressing very well and I’m sure it’ll be a much valued facility that serves the people of Stockton-on-Tees in their time of need.

Over the next few days I’ll be taking the chance to catch up on important paperwork and business in my office ahead of another busy week.

This weekend, I’m looking forward to spending time with my family. I’ll also be keeping track of how Middlesbrough get on away at Blackburn Rovers. The Ewood Park club are managed by Boro legend and former manager Tony Mowbray but I’ll be glad if the team can get one over him on this occasion.

Back to work on Monday and I’ll be meeting with Alan Foster who is the Integrated Care System (ICS) Executive Lead for the North East and North Cumbria ICS. Integrated Care Systems are a collaboration of NHS commissioners and providers working in partnership with local government and other sectors. The meeting was a chance to explore opportunities to strengthen our joint working arrangements and identify shared priorities.

Following this I joined Deputy Leader, Councillor Jim Beall, to meet with Julie Danks for our regular catch-up meeting on developing issues affecting the council.

Later in the day we had an informal Cabinet briefing in the Jim Cooke Conference Suite where we discussed a number of items that will be making their way through for consideration at the full Cabinet meeting on Thursday 12 September.
