Step up your daily exercise with Active 10

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is supporting a new initiative to get everyone walking briskly for ten minutes every day to improve health and wellbeing.

The free Active 10 mobile app displays how much walking has been completed each day, offers tips on how exercise can be incorporated into daily routines and allows users to set new goals and targets.

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health, said: "The Active 10 app is a useful tool that can help people to get ten minutes of brisk walking into their everyday routine, whether this is by walking to work, stepping out at lunchtime, walking to the shops or through one of our beautiful local parks.

"Even just adding this small amount of exercise to a daily lifestyle can improve wellbeing and it can help people with lower back pain and those at risk of high blood pressure.

"In the long term, it can help to reduce your risk of serious illness like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. I'd encourage everyone to take regular exercise - walking is a free and easy way for most people to do this."
