School closure: St John the Baptist Primary
St John the Baptist Primary School in Ragworth will be closed tomorrow (December 1) due to a sickness and diarrhoea bug.
Since the start of last week, the bug has affected almost 100 of the 230 children at the school and nursery, as well as staff.
Head teacher, Kerry Coe, said: "In the interests of the health of our children and staff, we've taken the decision to close the school tomorrow.
"This is not a decision we've taken lightly but it will enable us to undertake a deep clean of the school so that we can reopen on Monday.
"We've been following advice from Public Health England and the Council since the start of the outbreak and have undertaken intensive cleaning throughout.
"We have sent out guidance to parents and carers and are asking those affected to keep their child at home for 48 hours after the last bout of sickness or diarrhoea."
