Save money on energy bills with the Big Community Switch

Residents across Stockton-on-Tees Borough can make big savings on their energy bills thanks to a collective purchasing scheme called the Big Community Switch.

The scheme is open for registration now and gives individuals the opportunity to join together to form a single buying unit through which they can secure cheaper energy bills. Registration is open until midnight on Monday 9 October 2017.

On 10 October a range of energy companies will compete to become the energy supplier for the customers who have signed up for the switch.  The winning company will be the one that offers the best value for money deal - the more customers who are signed up and registered to switch, the more competitive the deal is likely to be.

From Monday 23 October individuals who registered will receive a personal offer and can then make a decision whether to switch to the winning supplier. There is no cost or obligation for residents to register or accept the personal offer received. 

Councillor Mike Smith, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: "Our previous Big Community Switch auctions have been hugely popular and we are very pleased to offer the scheme again in partnership with iChoosr.

"This is an excellent opportunity for individuals across the Borough to band together and save money on their gas and electricity bills - last autumn the average annual saving for our residents was £214. 

"The scheme is easy to use and it's open to all residents, including those who rent or have a prepayment or key card meter. Some utility companies have already announced price increases which will impact on household bills, so I would encourage everyone to register and see what savings could be made."

Residents should have an annual energy statement or recent gas and electricity bill to hand when registering.
