There are a range of opportunities for people to get involved in the Townscape Heritage project, learn more about the history of the area, attend fun and interesting events and learn new skills.
Tennant Square Archaeological Excavation - Monday 27 September to Friday 8 October
The archaeological dig is a rare opportunity to take part in excavation in central Stockton, it will be taking place on Tennant Square, between Laing Street and Tennant Street where the 19th century Congregational Church once stood.
This is an exciting chance to participate in the exploration of the site and uncover aspects of its history. The archaeological dig will take place over two weeks with training provided to participants to equip them to undertake a variety of roles such as digging, washing artefacts and recording finds. The excavation will be led by Tees Archaeology.
The excavation is taking place from Monday 27 September to Friday 8 October. The dig site is on Tennant Square, the project will be based from a nearby building located on Stockton High Street.
The project will run from 9.30am to 4pm each day.
No previous experience is needed. Please be aware that this project will be outdoors so volunteers are advised to dress accordingly.
Tea and coffee will be provided, but you'll need to bring any other required refreshments.
There will be six volunteer spaces per day due to limited availability. Spaces will be shared out amongst those interested.
