School meals are available to all primary school children within the Borough. We also provide school meals for several secondary schools.

Our school meals are always fresh, very nutritious, and great value for money. A two-course meal including a drink is only £10.25 weekly, that's £2.05 a day for Key Stage 2 children. Key Stage 1 children are entitled to a free school meal.

Free school meal entitlements

Free school meals are available to all key stage one pupils and to children whose parents receive certain benefits, if you meet the criteria please apply as this will ensure that the school your child attends receives additional funding to support your child’s education:

From 1 April 2018 the Government introduced new regulations for people claiming free schools meals who receive Universal Credit. The change means that if your net annual earnings are more than £7,400 you will not be eligible to claim free school meals.

Pupils who received free school meals before 1 April 2018 and pupils who are assessed as eligible after 1 April 2018 will continue to receive free school meals until the end of the universal roll out period, which is expected to be March 2022. This applies even if they no longer meet the eligibility criteria at a subsequent point during the roll out period.

At the end of the Universal Credit roll out period, any existing pupil who no longer meets the eligibility criteria will continue to receive free school meals until the end of their current phase of education, i.e. primary or secondary school. View the free school meals qualifying criteria.

Household Support Fund

The Government has announced that a new Household Support Fund will be made available to local authorities to support people most in need this winter.

Stockton-on-Tees families with children receiving free school meals will be given food vouchers (subject to Government approving the Council's proposal to use the funding in this way).

Vouchers will be distributed as follows:

  • £80 per child in receipt of free school meals. The vouchers will be distributed by schools during November 2021.

There is no need to apply for the vouchers. If you are eligible you will receive them automatically via your child’s school in November.
