Private Hire Operator Licence
Any person who operates Private Hire Vehicles must apply to the Local Authority for a Private Hire Operators Licence.
A Private Hire Vehicle may only be despatched to a customer by a private hire operator who holds an operator's licence. Such a licence permits the operator to make provision for the invitation or acceptance of bookings for a Private Hire Vehicle.
A Private Hire Operator must ensure that every Private Hire Vehicle despatched by him is licensed and driven by a person who holds a Private Hire Drivers Licence issued by the Local Authority.
It is a criminal offence to operate Private Hire Vehicles without an Operator's Licence.
Private Hire Operators licences are issued for a maximum period of one year and are renewed annually on 1st December. i.e. if you apply in June your licence will expire on 30 November of the same year.
