The Council has developed a programme of repairs to Norton's pond including repairs to the perimeter path, steps and railings, replacement of the fountain and surface improvements including new seating and feature planters to the plaza corner.
We are also replacing the existing benches around the Village Green. New benches will be provided in the same location, but we will turn benches around to look out at the Village Green rather than towards the road.
The duck pond is a popular attraction for Norton residents and visitors. This scheme will improve accessibility to the duck pond and will enhance the environment at the northern end of the High Street creating a welcoming and attractive destination for people to sit and enjoy the natural and protected beauty of the surrounding Village Green.
The duck pond scheme will complement wider future changes that are being developed for the southern end of the High Street, which include improving car parking, traffic flow and public realm for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors.
The scheme has been designed in response to findings of the ‘Let’s Talk About Our Towns’ public consultation and how the scheme will improve the northern end of the High Street.

The new fountain is a high-jet floating fountain with three times more white LED lights.
The design for the public realm improvements around the duck pond is being finalised.
The installation of the new replacement fountain at Norton duck pond completed in October.
This is phase one of the duck pond improvements scheme, with the improvements to the perimeter path, steps and railings and surface improvements including seating and feature planters being scheduled for Spring 2022.
The timescales for this are dependent upon factors such as the availability and delivery timescales of the chosen materials.
