Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) Funding and Support

The Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) is a discretionary grant supporting businesses which are struggling to survive the nationally imposed restrictions resulting in a loss of trade and income due to the COVID-19 crisis.

The budget for this scheme is a single fixed allocation from the Government which will be insufficient to help all businesses impacted and therefore we are prioritising applications following agreed criteria.

There are two ARG schemes running:

ARG - Start-up Support Scheme

COVID Business Recovery Support Scheme (BRSS)

ARG - Start-Up Support Scheme

The ARG Start-Up Support Scheme is for new businesses and businesses that have been trading for less than 12 months.

The Council is working in collaboration with NEEAL through the Tees Valley Business Start-up service to provide support.

Eligible businesses will be offered practical advice and training from NEEAL through workshops and one-to-one support. A business advisor will work with you to create an action plan which will set out a business plan. Further support will be provided by the advisor in the form of mentoring, peer to peer learning, workshops and training covering all the key areas to starting and running a business.

After working with NEEAL, businesses may be referred to relevant schemes and incentives to provide additional support including financial support, where applicable.

To be eligible for this scheme, you must:

  • Be a new business, or have been trading for less than 12 months
  • Have a feasible business idea/plan
  • Be based within Stockton-on-Tees
