Javed, Mohammed

Councillor Mohammed Javed

Councillor Mohammed Javed represents Parkfield & Oxbridge Ward.

I was elected as a councillor to Stockton Borough Council in May 2007 and I am the first Asian to be elected as a councillor in Stockton which is a historic change for Stockton. I work supporting people with learning disabilities, a job which gives me great pleasure helping disadvantaged people and improving their quality of life.

I am a member of the housing and community safety select committee and also the appeals and complaints committee. I am on the board of the International Family Centre and the Corner House Project which deals with youth in Stockton. I am also on the board of the Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder. I am also a governor of Mill Lane School in Stockton.

I support many charities, including Healing hand which is building houses in Kashmir after the earthquake there three years ago. We raised over £80,000 with the help of the people of Stockton and of Stockton Borough Council.

I am a member of the Mosque Committee and we are in the process of building the first purpose built designed Mosque in Stockton-on-Tees which is the first of it's kind in Teesside.

I am married and live with my wife and three children in my ward. I enjoy watching my favourite sports; cricket, football and tennis. I particularly like watching Wimbledon.

I came into politics because I like to serve people and I love to meet people from different backgrounds but most importantly of all I like to help people.

Parkfield & Oxbridge Ward Information

Community Information

Cleveland Police
Information on your local Neighbourhood Team.

Healthy Lifestyles
There is currently a Primary Care Trust (PCT) programme in place to promote healthy lifestyles amongst the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) community encouraging people to eat a balanced diet and take more exercise and particularly to walk regularly. One of the activities of the programme is to offer free blood pressure checks. Blood pressure checking sessions are being run after the Friday congregation in the mosques in Hartington Road and in Northcote Street. For more details of the programme and for the dates of the blood pressure sessions please contact me directly.

Regular Visits from the Chief Constable
I have arranged regular visits from the Chief Constable of Cleveland Police, Mr Sean Price, to all of the mosques in the Tees Valley area, where members of the BME community can ask questions of and talk directly with the Chief Constable and some of his team. Sessions have taken place on Fridays after prayers at the mosques. I will try to give two or three weeks notice of future sessions to the committee members of each mosque so that they can advertise them, but if you would like more information please contact me directly. The aim of these meetings is to improve communication and general relationships between the police force and the BME community.

Stop Smoking
The Stockton and Hartlepool Stop Smoking Service is offering drop-in sessions across the Borough to those people who wish to give up smoking. There will be help from trained advisors and prescriptions available for treatments such as nicotine replacement or other supporting medication.

For more details of the service and drop-in time table, please ring 01642 383819 or visit the Stop smoking service website.
