Annual Council Tax Billing
Council Tax is your contribution to the many services the Council provides. This includes education, libraries, waste collections, regeneration schemes, leisure facilities and environmental matters. Elements of the tax also contribute towards policing, fire services and parish charges.
Who has to pay?
Every home in the Stockton Borough area has to pay Council Tax. This is the responsibility of the liable person of the property. If you’re 18 or over and own or rent a home, you’ll usually have to pay Council Tax. A full Council Tax bill assumes that two adults live in the property. Depending on your circumstances you may be eligible for a Council Tax discount, reduction or exemption. Find out if you qualify on our discounts, reductions and exemptions webpage.
Council Tax Support helps people on low incomes to pay their Council Tax. To find out more visit the Council Tax Support webpages.
What to pay and when?
The level of Council Tax for your home is based on the valuation band your property sits in. Your Council Tax bill tells you how much you have to pay for the year, how the amount has been worked out and the dates you have to pay. You can apply to pay by weekly, fortnightly or 12 monthly instalments.
