There are two residents permit parking schemes in operation in Yarm town centre; Yarm High Street and Yarm town centre west. Both zones operate between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday excluding Bank Holidays. A permit is NOT required to park outside of these times i.e. not after 5pm or on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

Permits apply solely to parking bays in the appropriate zone and do not allow parking on any yellow lines or in the off street car parks. Permits are NOT interchangeable between the two zones. The Council are not able to guarantee any specific bay to a particular property and parking continues to operate on a first come, first served basis.

Parking in Yarm town centre is finite and therefore, it is necessary to limit the number of permits to a maximum of two per household, and the visitor voucher books to one per household. Please note: businesses permits are not available.

Yarm High Street – zone code ‘Y’

Existing residents' permit parking schemes in the Borough have bays designated for ‘permit holders only’ to park, but on Yarm High Street we have adopted a more flexible approach.

A valid permit allows parking in any bay (excluding those bays for specific vehicle classes e.g. Taxi, Disabled, Loading) on Yarm High Street without time limit or ‘Pay and Display’ charges. Eligible residents are those that do not have any other parking option/provision apart from on Yarm High Street.

Yarm Town Centre West – zone code ‘B’

Zone ‘B’ covers the Bridge Street/West End Gardens/West Street/Bentley Wynd/The Old Market/High Church Wynd area to the west of the High Street. In line with the free one hour parking on Yarm High Street, the parking bays in zone ‘B’ also allow one hour free on street parking, no return within two hours, for which a permit/voucher is not required.

Strictly, only one permit will be issued per vehicle, therefore permit holders must return zone code ‘Y’ permits in exchange for a permit for zone ‘B’ if that is their preferred location to park.

Visitor vouchers are valid for one specified day only, until 9am the following day. Each eligible household may purchase a maximum of one book of 20 visitor vouchers per year, at a cost of £10.
