September 2018

I am getting back to council business after undergoing knee surgery and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who sent get well soon messages during my recovery.

This morning I attended a meeting to discuss the forthcoming Scrutiny Review of Under-representation of Ethnic Communities in the Workforce. A drafted plan will be considered by the People Select Committee later this month.

Tomorrow I will receive an update on the Norton Park housing development between Norton Village and Stockton Town Centre. This impressive project will offer a range of housing to first time buyers, families and professionals alike.

I will then be attending the Council’s Cabinet meeting tomorrow evening where members will hear a progress update on children’s services across the Borough, and will review the performance of our schools over the last year. I am very proud to confirm that for yet another year the Council will be adopting an Armed Forces Community Covenant. This is a brilliant way to recognise the contribution of serving personnel, while helping them adjust to civilian life.

On Friday morning I will travel to Cavendish House for a series of meetings about Tees Valley Combined Authority business. We will discuss its 2019/20 budget and draft communication strategy, as well as its culture and values, progress and future plans. I’m then planning to catch-up on work in the office during the afternoon. Over the weekend I am looking forward to spending time with my family. I will also be keeping an eye on Middlesbrough’s tough evening match away to Sheffield Wednesday on Friday.

I will begin next week completing important Council paperwork and preparing for an evening meeting with the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Eileen Johnson.

On Tuesday I will see Martin Waters, the Tees Valley Combined Authority's Head of Homes and Communities, for our weekly briefing.
