Wednesday 6 September

Today I am meeting with the Council’s Director of Finance and Business Services, Garry Cummings to discuss issues relating to business rates.

On Thursday and Friday I am attending the annual Association of Public Service Excellence (APSE) conference in Oxford. The Council has been shortlisted for overall council of the year as well as eight separate categories in the annual APSE awards, which recognises frontline services. To be shortlisted in so many categories is a huge achievement and is testament to our hard-working staff especially when we continue to take on huge budget reductions.

Over the weekend I hope to spend time with my family but I will also be keenly following events on Saturday afternoon from the Macron Stadium in Bolton. Middlesbrough travel there looking for a vital first away victory of the season and should be in good shape heading into the game after the international break.

On Monday I will hold my regular weekly catch up meeting with Deputy Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Councillor Jim Beall and Neil Schneider, Chief Executive of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

I will also join Director of Economic Growth, Richard McGuckin, in a meeting with Ian Edge, the new owner of the Teesside Princess. It will be good to hear what plans Mr Edge has for the boat which is a popular entertainment venue.

On Tuesday I will be travelling to London to join councillors from across the UK to attend the Local Government Association Children and Young People Board.
