Today I had a very interesting afternoon visiting a special event in Stockton Central Library around the Stories from the High Street series. It was a very informative showcase about the history of our High Street and gave people the opportunity to learn and develop research skills.
Thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund for working in partnership with the Council to fund this project.
On Thursday and Friday I will take the opportunity to catch up on some important Council business in my office.
It gives me great pleasure that there isn’t a football game concerning Middlesbrough FC taking place this weekend in the dreaded playoffs! Promotion was secured last Saturday thanks to a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton.
It was a glorious day for the club, players and the fans who were jubilant from the final whistle and I am sure that everyone connected to Boro had a fantastic weekend revelling in our success.
I am looking forward to going to the Riverside next season to see some of the best teams and players in the world plying their trade in Teesside. It has been a long seven years out of the top flight but I am delighted that the club have made it back to the Premier League.
I hope that the wider area will benefit from the financial boost as well as the worldwide audience reach that the league has. Middlesbrough FC are back on the global map.
On Sunday I am looking forward to attending the Mayor’s Sunday event which includes the annual Community Prayer Service.
I will also be spending some quality time with my family over the weekend.
Back to work on Monday and I held my regular meeting with Councillor Jim Beall, Deputy Leader of the Council, and Neil Schneider, the Council’s Chief Executive. In this meeting we catch up on a variety of issues and developments that are happening across the Borough.
