This morning I visited Cowpen Depot in Billingham to meet the council staff who are based there. It was a pleasure to meet so many dedicated employees face to face and talk to them about issues facing them and their teams.
This evening there will be a full Council meeting. Before we go through the business on the agenda councillors will pay tribute to former Councillor Ray McCall who has recently died after a long illness. Ray served as a Stockton Borough Councillor from 2002 to 2005 and then again from 2011 to 2015. He will be remembered for his public service and our thoughts go to his family and friends.
On Friday I will be meeting Leaders and Mayors from across the Tees Valley for our regular meeting with the region’s MPs. It’s always a good opportunity to discuss national policy and constituency issues.
Friday evening will see me accompany the Stockton Town Pastor patrols on a shift from 10pm to 3am. I am looking forward to learning more about the good work they do.
It was really disappointing to lose 3-1 to West Ham last weekend, in a game that I think most fans were targeting the full three points. It’s important the team bounce back quickly and seek to get as many points on the board as soon as they can.
Boro’s pursuit of Premier League survival takes a back seat this weekend as attentions turn again to the FA Cup. League Two side Accrington Stanley are our fourth round visitors and I’m really hoping for a strong victory with plenty of goals to give the side some much needed confidence.
Back to work on Monday and I will meet with officers and Councillor Jim Beall, the Deputy Leader, to discuss the medium term financial plan. Later in the day cabinet members will join senior officers from across the council at a meeting to discuss the items coming forward for the next full cabinet meeting.
