Today I travelled to Cavendish House over in Teesdale for a board meeting of the Tees Valley Combined Authority. It’s an important time for the authority as preparations are underway for the election of a regional Mayor in May this year.
Following this I was at the County Hall in Durham for a sub-committee meeting of the North East Procurement Organisation (NEPO). NEPO work in partnership with North East local authorities on the strategic procurement of high value goods and services in order to deliver savings and maximise efficiencies.
Later in the day there was a special meeting of Council. On the agenda was the appointment of the Returning Officer for the election of a Mayor for the Tees Valley Combined Authority and we also discussed the development and financing of the proposed new hotel on the North Shore site.
On Thursday I will meet with Steve Rose, Chief Executive Officer of Catalyst, to discuss the latest issues affecting the voluntary and community sector. Catalyst do great work in striving for positive impacts on our local communities so it is always good to meet with them.
On Friday I’m looking forward to attending the Mayor’s annual charity Civic Ball at Wynyard Hall. The event is always well attended and will raise vital funds for the Mayor’s charities which this year are Bowel Cancer UK, Butterwick Hospice and Meningitis Now.
Over the weekend I am looking forward to spending time with my family.
Middlesbrough are away from the Riverside on Saturday as they are in the capital to take on Sam Allardyce’s struggling Crystal Palace side. It really is a huge ‘six-pointer’ of a game which could go a fair way to determining which side survives to play Premier League football next season. I’m hoping for a memorable away win!
Back to work on Monday and I will be reviewing the agenda for an upcoming meeting of the Council’s Cabinet.
On Tuesday I’ll be making the most of some time to catch up on important Council paperwork in the office.
