April 2017

Today I travelled across to Cavendish House in Teesdale for a meeting of the Tees Valley Leaders and Mayors. It was useful to catch up and speak with colleagues ahead of the mayoral election tomorrow.

After this, I headed back to the Town Hall in Stockton for a meeting of full Council. It was the first Council meeting to be presided over by the new Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees, Councillor Maurice Perry.

Tomorrow brings around polling day for the election of a new Mayor for the Tees Valley region.

On Friday I will be attending the election count at Thornaby Pavilion and eagerly awaiting the announcement of the results.

Over the weekend I am looking forward to spending time with my family.

On Saturday evening I will be travelling to Gateshead to attend the regional dinner of the Northern Trade Union Congress. It’ll be good to speak with colleagues and update them on the latest developments within the Borough.

There’s no Middlesbrough match until Monday evening. The fixture couldn’t be any more daunting, away at Stamford Bridge to the Premier League champions-elect, Chelsea. I thought the team were excellent last week against Manchester City and deserved to win the game but for some highly debatable refereeing that saw Boro concede a massively controversial penalty. It remains a big ask to survive but the signs for the future are good if we keep showing the same level of spirit and character.

Back to work on Monday and I will be meeting with fellow Leaders and colleagues for a ceremony to mark the new Mayor’s first day in office. The new Mayor will sign a declaration of office and be welcomed into their role by everyone working within the Tees Valley Combined Authority.

I’ll then be attending a pre-agenda Cabinet meeting in the Jim Cooke Conference Suite in the Municipal Buildings, as we look ahead to the items on the agenda in the near future.

I’ll be making the most of the opportunity to catch up on important Council paperwork in the office on Tuesday.
