How to obtain a Certificate

Stockton Register Office holds records for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships dating back to 1837 and certified copies of the entries may be purchased from that period onwards.

You can search online for a birth, death or marriage certificate by visiting our online record search facility. Read more about the records we hold on our Online Search Help page

 

Ordering Certificates

Standard Service Birth, Death, Marriage and Civil Partnership certificates cost £11 per certificate issued within five working days. 
Priority Service Birth, Death, Marriage and Civil Partnership certificates cost £35 per certificate issued on or before the next working day (orders up to 3pm).

You can purchase copy certificates from the Register Office in one of the following ways: 

By post
Either download the relevant certificate request form (see below) complete it and post it to the Register Office with the payment or send a letter outlining the details of the entry you require enclosing a cheque* or postal order payable to Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

Telephone
Over the telephone by calling 01642 527720. Please have the details of the copy certificate that you wish to purchase. We accept payment by debit/credit cards.

In person
You can visit the Register Office to request your copy certificates, you can pay with cash or we accept payment by debit/credit cards.

Please note, if paying by cheque, certificates will be issued subject to cheque clearance.

Payment can be made by cash, cheque or postal order made payable to Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council or by debit or credit card (excluding American Express).
