The closing date is fast approaching for applications for primary school places in 2022 for children across the Borough – but hundreds of parents have yet to apply.

Parents and carers have until Saturday 15 January to submit their applications. Any received after this date will only be considered after those made on time have been processed.

How do I know it is time to apply for my child?

If your child was born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018, they will be due to start primary school in September 2022.

How many schools can I apply for?

You may apply for up to three schools and you can provide reasons for your choices in your application.

My child attends a nursery – do I still need to apply?

Yes. There’s no automatic transfer from nursery to primary school so you must apply even if your child goes to a school nursery.

How do I apply?

You can apply using the online form or download one to print at home and send in at www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

Alternatively, you can call the admissions team on 01642 526605 or contact them via email at [email protected].

When will I find out which school my child has got a place at?

If you apply online and select to hear via email, you’ll be emailed on Saturday 16 April 2022 informing you of your child’s allocated place. Paper applicants and those who did not select to receive an email will receive notification by letter.

Can I defer my child’s start date?

Yes, if your child was born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018 you can defer their start at primary school to the next academic year, but you must make this clear on your application so the request can be considered.

A word from the Cabinet Member…

Councillor Lisa Evans, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “If your child is due to start primary school this September then it’s vital you apply for a place before the 15 January deadline to avoid missing out on your preferred school.

“We all know what an important step starting school is for a child and if you haven’t already I’d urge you to get your application in now.”

Where can I get more information?

For more information on the application process, visit www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions or contact the admissions team using the details given above.
