Time running out for primary school applications

Parents and carers across Stockton-on-Tees have just a few days left to apply for this year’s intake of primary school places.

The deadline for applications is Friday, January 15 and any late submissions will only be considered after those made on time have been processed.

Children born between September 1 2016 and August 31 2017 are due to start primary school in September 2021.

Parents and carers can select up to three school preferences for their child and can also provide reasons in their application.

There is no automatic transfer from nursery to primary school, meaning applications are still required for children who attend a school nursery.

Councillor Lisa Evans, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “If you have a child who is due to start primary school this September then it’s vital you apply for a place before Friday’s deadline to make sure you avoid disappointment.

“We all know what an important step starting school is for a child and if you haven’t already I’d urge you to get your application in as soon as you can.

“Please don’t run the risk of missing out on your preferred school.”

The easiest way to apply is via the online form at www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions.

An email confirmation will be sent on Friday, April 16 2021 to parents and carers who applied online to inform them which school has been offered to their child.

Those who completed a paper application form will receive a letter.
