From Monday 2 November 2020, Preston Park Museum will temporarily change its winter hours and will only open for Stockton-on-Tees Borough school holidays. The park, car park, toilets, café, play area, skate park will remain open as usual.

When will the museum close?

From Monday 2 November 2020, Preston Park Museum will temporarily change its winter hours and will only open for Stockton-on-Tees Borough school holidays (including Christmas and February half-term).

Why is the museum closing in between school holidays?

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: “The winter months are traditionally quieter for visitor attractions, but this year’s visitor numbers have understandably been lower than usual due to Covid-19.

“Preston Park Museum has seen a significant reduction in its usual visitors, particularly coach parties, schools, care homes and organised groups so we have made the decision to close the museum during quieter, off-peak times.

“The good news is that despite reduced numbers, families are still visiting during school holidays so the museum will continue to open during these periods, with a range of activities and trails to keep everyone entertained.”

Will the park remain open?

Yes - the park grounds, skate park, café, play area and toilets will remain open. The Park Rangers will continue to work on improvements and maintenance to the parkland.

Will schools still be able to access loan boxes?

Yes, by arrangement with the Learning team. We also have digital resources for teachers to access.

Will any changes be made to the museum whilst it is closed?

During the closure, staff will have the opportunity to carry out essential maintenance work, which would not usually be possible when open to the public.

Staff will also support priority tasks across Council services, making sure the people of the Borough are looked after this winter.

I have an annual pass. Can I get a refund?

All those with annual tickets to the museum can have their pass extended for the period of closure.
