school admissions

Applications for primary school places across Stockton-on-Tees opened today for children starting school in 2021.

Parents and carers are being urged to send off their applications as soon as they can.

Here’s all you need to know.

How do I know if it is time to apply for my child?

If your child was born between September 1 2016 and August 31 2017, they will start primary school in September 2021.

How do I apply?

The easiest way to submit an application is via the online form at www.stockton.gov.uk/schooladmissions

You can also telephone 01642 526605 to request a paper copy, or download one from our website if necessary.

When is the deadline?

The deadline to apply is Friday, January 15 2021. Any late applications will only be considered once all those made on time have been processed.

My child attends nursery – do I still need to apply?

Yes. There is no automatic transfer from nursery to primary school, meaning you must apply even if your child attends a school nursery.

How many schools can I apply for?

Three. You’re also able to provide reasons for the application.

When will I find out where my child is attending?

Letters will be sent to parents and carers on Friday, April 16 2021 to inform them which school has been offered to their child. Those who applied online (and ticked the option to receive an email notification) will receive an email confirmation.

What do Councillors think?

Councillor Lisa Evans, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Starting primary school is a really important step for children and I would urge parents and carers to get applications sent off as soon as you can.

“I would encourage everyone to use all three school preferences to have the best chance of your child securing a place at a school of your choice.

“Don’t forget to submit your application before the January deadline to avoid disappointment.”
