Ingleby Barwick library will close next month ahead of its move to a bigger and better venue this summer.

The new library, based inside Ingleby Barwick’s new leisure centre, will replace the existing branch at All Saints Secondary School which will close on Sunday April 5.

It will have a dedicated children’s area, improved ICT facilities and self-service kiosks as well as a wide range of new books for every taste and age group.

Councillor Jim Beall, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture, said: “Naturally, a lot of the focus on the new Ingleby Barwick leisure centre has been on the likes of the pool and gym facilities but the new library is going to be an exciting part of the overall scheme too.

“Not only will it be bigger and better than the existing library, it will also have flexible shelving meaning the space can be used for other activities and events too.

“The current library will close on April 5 to allow staff to remove all the stock and get it ready for the new library opening in the summer.

“We’ll let people know the opening date as soon as its confirmed. In the meantime, there’ll be a mobile library service running every Tuesday afternoon from April 7 in the Myton House Farm car park.

“We have eight other libraries across the Borough, where you can use your library card. Also not forgetting we have a range of e-books which can be borrowed by visiting our website.

“The new library is going to be a great facility for Ingleby Barwick and I can’t wait until it opens its doors.”
