Update on Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) from the Council Leader, Councillor Bob Cook.

We continue to provide weekly updates on the last working day of the week and our main focus is on keeping you informed of changes to services.

Of course, should there be any urgent or significant news to communicate in the meantime we will do this via the Council’s news pages and social media channels.

There are no changes to services to update you on this week but there are some things I’m keen to remind people of.

Business grants

Applications for phase 3 of the extended local business grants fund scheme are now open and must be in by Sunday, August 2.

The scheme has been extended to include some small manufacturing businesses, regular market traders, and some additional businesses eligible for Expanded Retail Discount.

Businesses that were eligible for previous phases of the local business grants fund scheme can still apply if they have not done so already.

Full details and an application form can be found on our webpage www.stockton.gov.uk/coronavirus/businesssupport.

New arrangements for Pavement Licences

We have introduced new licensing arrangements to support businesses such as cafés, restaurants and bars wishing to place removable furniture on pavements. This is all part of our ongoing work to help businesses through the ongoing easing of lockdown measures. Full details of the online application process are available on our webpage www.stockton.gov.uk/pavementlicence.

Stockton-on-Tees News

We couldn't produce and distribute a hard copy of the July edition of Stockton-on-Tees News due to the coronavirus pandemic, so we decided to do a digital version instead. It's available now on our website and it's full of news and features about everything that's going on in the Borough. And with it being digital, there are video stories too.

You can find it at www.stockton.gov.uk/stocktononteesnews/july2020 and I do hope you enjoy it. Of course, not everybody has internet access so we've printed a small number of hard copies. If you or someone you know would like one posted out just email [email protected] or call 01642 524581.

Stay safe

Even though lockdown restrictions are being eased, it remains vitally important that everyone sticks to social distancing to keep us all safe.

It’s crucial we all approach the changes with caution and respect the rules which are in place to minimise the risk of the virus spreading.

Social distancing only works effectively as a preventative measure when all of us follow the guidance.

I urge you all to play your part and help us be in a stronger position in our fight against COVID-19.

Protecting each other, and particularly our most vulnerable residents, is still of paramount importance.
